Dental Implants For You in Colorado Springs

Dental Implants

Dr. Jeffery Platt is a unique dentist in the Colorado Springs area in that he offers more than general dentistry. Dr. Platt has dedicated much of his practice to restoring smiles, improving appearances, and achieving optimal jaw function through implant and cosmetic dentistry. As a talented leading-edge dentist, Dr. Platt has expertise in dental implant surgery and smile restoration with crowns, bridges, or artificial teeth. Dr. Platt currently instructs other dentists on the placement and restoration of dental implants in Colorado and the western US. He regularly teaches other dentists and helps them become proficient in this sometimes difficult area of dentistry. He has many innovative techniques that he uses to place an implant at the same time a broken down tooth is extracted or removed, saving four to six months of healing time before you get a tooth to chew with in the area. He has mastered a technique that he also teaches other dentists to preform for doing bone grafting in the maxillary sinus area that is similar to how “Laproscopic Surgery” has changed many surgical procedures to be more out-patient surgery and easier on the patients. His technique of doing a “sinus lift” bone graft will revolutionize that surgical procedure in the future for the benefit of patient comfort. It is more predictable than the old “lateral window” procedure as far as success. The old technique involved a lengthy two-three hour, arduous and invasive exposure of the jaw bone surgery and occasionally an implant could be placed. The new procedure is about an hour, a small surgical area approx. 1.5 cm and the regular process for placement of a normal implant. Everything is done in the small area where the implant will be placed. Truly a win-win for patients!

Dental implants are the best solution for replacing missing teeth, stabilizing existing dentures or replacing dentures completely. These specially-made titanium anchors are placed into the space where teeth are missing. Once the bone bonds with the Titanium or Ceramic implant, a post is inserted into the anchor and an artificial tooth (crown) is attached to the post. If you have healthy gums and bone, you might be a candidate for dental implants. Dental implants can be used to replace one or more teeth, support a bridge and eliminate the need for a removable partial denture, provide support for a denture, or restore function and balance to your bite.

With today’s advanced technology, dental implants look, feel and function like natural teeth. In fact, they are so comfortable and natural-looking, you may forget you ever lost a tooth.

When you lose a tooth, a dental implant may be needed to replace the tooth root and crown. Dental implants are simply “anchors” that permanently support replacement teeth. They are secure and durable and can be cleaned and cared for much like your natural teeth. The most common response Dr. Platt hears from patients is that they are worried about how painful the process will be! But everyone is surprised by how relatively painless it is when they have completed the surgery. The majority of patients are fine with Tylenol or Ibuprofen within 24 to 48 hours!

The procedure requires a titanium or ceramic root be fitted into your jaw to replace the lost tooth’s root. Once the implant is anchored into the bone, the bone around the implant requires six weeks to four months of healing. Once the bone has healed, a support post and replacement tooth is anchored onto the implant.

Implants are a great option for a single tooth that breaks and is too far gone to spend a lot of money trying to play heroics to salvage and it only lasts a few short years. If taken care of the way we will teach you, your implant should last decades and give you confidence to eat and chew like a normal healthy tooth.
